Quick answer

For 10 developers on 27 October 2026, GitHub's Free plan cost nothing and its Team plan $40 a month at a price shown for the first 12 months. Bitbucket Standard cost $36.50 and GitLab Premium $290, since GitLab.com Free allows 5 users per private group. For deployment, Netlify Pro was $20 a month with unlimited members, and Vercel Pro $20 per developer seat.

A developer platform bill has two halves. Code hosting (repositories, pull requests, CI) is cheap or free for a small team. Deployment platforms charge per developer and then by usage, and usage is where surprises come from. Below, both halves are priced for 10 developers, from vendor pages read on 27 October 2026.

GitHub

GitHub Free includes unlimited public and private repositories, 2,000 CI/CD minutes a month and 500 MB of package storage, and the pricing page prints no user cap. Team was shown at $4 per user per month and Enterprise at $21, both "for the first 12 months*", and the price after that was not visible to us. SAML SSO appears on Enterprise.

Bitbucket

Free covers up to 5 users, with 50 build minutes and 1 GB of storage. Standard costs $3.65 and Premium $8 per user per month. Premium adds enforced merge checks, IP allowlisting, deployment permissions and required two-step verification. Extra build minutes or storage cost $10 a month per pack.

GitLab

GitLab.com Free limits private top-level groups to 5 users, with 400 compute minutes a month. Premium costs $29 per user per month billed annually, with 10,000 compute minutes. Self-managed, the free tier is the Community Edition. Its FOSS mirror is labelled MIT and describes itself as GitLab "with all proprietary code removed".

Deployment: what changes with usage?

PlatformSeat modelPro priceIncluded
NetlifyUnlimited members$20/month3,000 credits
VercelPer developer seat$20/seat/month$20 usage credit, 1 TB transfer

Vercel charges per developer seat: 10 developers on Pro is $200 a month before usage, with unlimited viewer seats. Build time on basic machines costs $0.007 a minute, and SAML SSO is a $300-a-month add-on. Netlify prices per team: Pro is $20 a month "with unlimited members", 3,000 credits and private organisation repositories. Personal is $9 with 1,000 credits, and Free has a 300-credit limit. Extra credits cost $10 for 1,500 on Pro.

For a marketing site or a small app, either usually fits within its allowance. For a high-traffic app, model your expected usage against each vendor's metering before choosing on seat price.

Picks

  • Code hosting, 10 developers, lowest cost: GitHub Free, or Bitbucket Standard if you use Atlassian tools.
  • Everything on your own servers: GitLab Community Edition, self-managed.
  • Deploying front ends with many developers: Netlify Pro, since members are unlimited.
  • Deploying with preview workflows and few developers: Vercel Pro.

Key points

  1. GitHub Free includes unlimited private repositories and 2,000 CI/CD minutes a month, with no user cap printed.
  2. GitLab.com Free and Bitbucket Free both stop at 5 users, so a sixth developer means a paid plan.
  3. GitHub's paid prices were shown 'for the first 12 months'; the price after that was not visible.
  4. Netlify Pro is $20 a month with unlimited members; Vercel Pro is $20 per developer seat plus usage.
  5. SAML SSO is an Enterprise feature on GitHub and a $300-a-month add-on on Vercel Pro.

Questions

Which code hosting is free for a team of 10?

GitHub's Free plan lists unlimited public and private repositories and 2,000 CI/CD minutes a month, with no user limit printed on the pricing page. GitLab.com Free limits private top-level groups to 5 users, and Bitbucket Free allows up to 5 users, so both need a paid plan at 10.

What does GitHub Team cost after the first year?

On 27 October 2026, GitHub showed Team at $4 per user per month 'for the first 12 months', with an asterisk whose footnote and later price were not visible in the page text we read. Treat $4 as an introductory figure and confirm the regular price before budgeting beyond one year.

Is Vercel or Netlify cheaper for a small team?

For seats, Netlify Pro costs $20 a month with unlimited members, while Vercel Pro costs $20 per developer seat, with unlimited viewer seats. Both meter usage. Netlify uses credits (3,000 on Pro), and Vercel includes a $20 usage credit and 1 TB of transfer on Pro.

Can we host our own Git server?

Yes. GitLab's self-managed free tier is the Community Edition, which GitLab says is free to use; its FOSS mirror is labelled MIT and describes itself as GitLab with all proprietary code removed. You run and maintain the server, but there is no per-user licence fee.

Where does single sign-on start on these platforms?

GitHub lists SAML single sign-on on Enterprise at $21 per user per month, a price also shown for the first 12 months. Vercel offers SAML SSO as a $300-a-month add-on to Pro and includes it on Enterprise. Netlify lists SSO and SCIM on Enterprise.
