What you get, and the catch
- Best for
- Teams that work with outside companies in shared channels and rely on many app integrations.
- Watch out
- On the free plan, messages are searchable for only 90 days, and Free deletes data after a year.
Slack's pricing page lists four plans:
- Free: messages "saved and searchable for 90 days", and up to 10 apps.
- Pro: $7.25 per user per month paid annually, or $8.75 paid monthly. Unlimited message history and app integrations.
- Business+: $15 per user per month paid annually, or $18 monthly. The plan card lists SAML-based single sign-on.
- Enterprise+: contact sales.
On our read date the page was also running a promotion of 50% off monthly Pro and Business+ for three months. We use the regular prices above.
The free plan's limits are about memory, not features. Older conversations disappear from search after 90 days, and Slack's FAQ says "Free Slack deletes data after 1 year", while paid plans keep data for life by default. For a team that uses chat to record decisions, that is the practical reason to pay.
On data and AI, Slack's FAQ states that it "does not share customer data with large language model (LLM) providers and does not use customer data to train LLMs."
At 10 users: $72.50 a month on annual Pro. At 25 users with SSO: $375 a month on annual Business+. Compare it with a meetings-first suite and an open-source chat server in the team communication category.
