What you get, and the catch
- Best for
- Companies that want a self-hosted HR system with no licence fee and have someone to run it.
- Watch out
- The free Starter edition is self-run, and Advanced has no published price, so budgeting needs a quote.
OrangeHRM is an HR system rather than an applicant tracker, and it is the open-source option in this category.
The Starter edition is described on the OrangeHRM site as "Completely FREE & Open-source HR Software". Its repository is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3. You install and run it yourself.
The Advanced edition is commercial. OrangeHRM prices it "per-employee per-month (PEPM)" and by module, but publishes no figures. The pricing page asks you to fill out a form. A 30-day free trial of Advanced is available. The company says the product supports cloud-hosted and on-premise deployments.
We do not estimate prices a vendor has not published, so Advanced cannot be costed against the other tools here until OrangeHRM prints a number. What can be compared is the starting point: a company that wants its HR system on its own server can run Starter with no licence fee. Check the module list on the OrangeHRM site against what you need. For hiring specifically, the applicant trackers in this category are built for the job.
For a 30-person company: $0 on Starter plus a server (see the hosting category), or a quote for Advanced. Compare it in the HR & hiring category.
